In 2023, Ajax Systems introduced FireProtect 2 AC, mains-powered fire detectors with an upgraded interconnected fire alarm feature — a fallback interconnection. Now, the fallback interconnection is also available for FireProtect 2 RB (with replaceable batteries) and SB (with sealed batteries) models. The feature serves as a backup to the primary interconnection via an Ajax hub. Henceforth, FireProtect 2 detectors, just like the hub, can listen to an encrypted radio channel and activate a synchronous fire alarm detector-to-detector.
The fallback interconnection will be available with a new firmware version of detectors. To avoid confusion, mains-free FireProtect 2 models that support the fallback interconnection will be marked with a sticker on the packaging.
About fallback interconnection
The fallback interconnection is a backup to the primary one via the Ajax hub. Both interconnections work in parallel. If one fire detector in the system detects a threat, it sends an alarm to the hub via Jeweller radio protocol using the primary interconnection. The hub initiates an interconnected alarm within 20 seconds, which is three times faster than EN 14604 requires. All information is immediately available in Ajax apps: the initiating detector’s location, fire alarm type, and exact alarm time. Meanwhile, the initiating detector activates the fallback interconnection and directly sends the alarm to other fire detectors. Even in the worst-case scenario of losing connection with the hub, the interconnected fire alarm activates within a minute. There is no chance of missing a fire alarm.
